Michigan football has gained solid momentum in recruiting over the summer, and the Wolverines are hoping to extend that success into the 2026 class. They’ve already made progress with the commitment of top-100 quarterback Brady Hart, one of the top-10 quarterbacks in the 2026 class from Cocoa, Florida. Hart kicked off his senior season impressively, throwing five first-half touchdowns.

Michigan’s running backs coach, Tony Alford, has been focusing on the 2026 class, with one of the primary targets being five-star running back Savion Hiter. The 6-foot, 200-pound back from Virginia is ranked 29th overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Hiter visited Michigan for its recruiting BBQ at the end of July, which helped secure the Wolverines a spot in his top five, alongside Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, and Penn State. Chad Simmons of On3.com noted that Tennessee and Georgia made “strong impressions” on Hiter over the summer, with Hiter describing his Michigan visit as “great.”

Evaluating Michigan’s chances with the five-star running back is challenging. While Tennessee and Georgia have generated significant buzz, Ohio State remains a formidable contender. Michigan has also created some excitement, with Hiter’s recent visit making an impact. It was his second visit to Michigan this year, following a spring trip.

Ohio State and Georgia have each hosted Hiter twice this year, giving them a slight edge according to the On3 prediction machine. Tennessee has also been gaining momentum on the recruiting trail, so they can’t be overlooked either.
