Anyone who carefully examines the New York Knicks’ offseason moves can see the team’s commitment to pursuing a championship with their current core. Their focus on winning the title in the upcoming season is clear, especially after acquiring Mikal Bridges from their Brooklyn rivals, a move that has fans excited despite the high cost.

The Knicks are actively seeking ways to strengthen their roster further. Their interest in adding a reliable big man like Brook Lopez underscores their seriousness about maximizing their championship window. However, this search for additional frontcourt depth raises questions about Julius Randle’s future with the team. It’s been well-known for some time that the organization has considered moving on from Randle, which affects his trade value.

Recent reports suggest the Knicks are open to trading Randle. NBA insider Brian Windhorst revealed on a recent episode of *The Hoops Collective* that the Knicks are more than willing to entertain offers for the 29-year-old forward. According to *Posting & Toasting’s* Antonio Losada, Randle’s contract, which pays him an attractive $29 million this season with a $31 million player option for next season, makes him “extraordinarily tradeable.” Windhorst noted that if Randle is playing at his best, he could easily exceed that value and might consider opting out of his contract.

However, Windhorst also warned that the Knicks need to be cautious when structuring a trade package involving Randle, as his potential cost could be significant. He highlighted that Randle is eligible for a four-year, $181 million extension, which, while not a max deal, is still a substantial financial commitment. The Knicks must manage their salary cap carefully, especially with potential future extensions for players like OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges.

Randle’s ability to command such a hefty contract is understandable given his performance. Despite playing only 46 regular-season games last year, he averaged 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. If the Knicks can find a team in need of a solid big man, they could potentially negotiate a favorable trade involving Randle.
