The news could have been worse.

The Angels revealed that Christian Moore, their first-round pick from July, suffered a left meniscus injury that will be treated conservatively before resuming baseball activities. Moore hasn’t played since sustaining the injury on Aug. 30 during a game against the Tennessee Smokies.

Interestingly, a similar injury ended Angels star Mike Trout’s season earlier this year, though Trout required surgery. The Angels, however, are hopeful Moore can recover without needing surgery.

Moore, 21, remains with the Angels’ Double-A affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Drafted eighth overall from the University of Tennessee, Moore quickly advanced from Class-A Inland Empire to Rocket City after just two games. In 22 games with the Trash Pandas, he posted an impressive .302/.355/.512 slash line with five home runs and 10 RBIs.
