The Miami Dolphins enter the 2024 NFL season with high expectations, having secured long-term commitments to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill with historic contract extensions.
With the belief that they’re in a Super Bowl window, the Dolphins are a popular pick for a successful season, whether in terms of individual achievements or postseason accomplishments.
However, one concern that could hinder Miami’s Super Bowl aspirations is the lack of a replacement for defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who departed for the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.
In the latest mock draft from The Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer, the Dolphins address this need in the 2025 NFL Draft, though it comes at the cost of missing the playoffs. Iyer projects Miami picking at #17, which would indicate they fell short of the 2024 postseason.
With that 17th pick, Iyer predicts the Dolphins will select Georgia defensive lineman Mykel Williams. Standing at 6’5″ and 265 pounds, Williams is considered a “tweener” — not the typical size for a defensive tackle but a bit larger than the ideal defensive end.
Despite this, Williams has proven to be productive, recording 4.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss in each of his previous two seasons with Georgia.
Williams’ rare blend of size, speed, and power makes him a highly desirable prospect for defensive coordinators. Pairing him with current Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler could create a formidable duo on the defensive line, giving Miami a powerful unit to disrupt opposing offenses for years to come.
