Ian Rapoport of NFL Network provided an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between Ja’Marr Chase and the Bengals after Chase participated in Wednesday’s practice.

Rapoport stated that the deal is “almost, nearly, kind of, sort of” close to being finalized. He explained that while the Bengals have made substantial offers that are somewhat aligned with Chase’s demands, an agreement has not yet been reached. Despite this, the fact that Chase was able to practice is seen as a positive sign.

Rapoport noted that Chase aims to surpass Justin Jefferson’s contract, and while Bengals owner Mike Brown has expressed doubts about completing the deal this year, there’s cautious optimism. He also mentioned that if the Bengals and Chase can’t agree, there could be more drama as the week progresses.

Chase was observed practicing with the team as negotiations continued, and there’s a possibility of an announcement before the season opener. At least this year’s opener is at home, unlike last year’s rainy road game.
