The Atlanta Falcons have a promising group of young offensive talents but might benefit from adding a veteran wide receiver, according to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox.
On September 4, Knox suggested that the Falcons could be interested in trading for veteran Robert Woods, given his familiarity with head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.
Knox mentioned that Woods could be a good fit for Atlanta, especially as a No. 3 receiver. With Kirk Cousins leading the offense, the Falcons’ receiving options beyond Drake London and Darnell Mooney are seen as lacking.
Woods, who had 40 receptions for 426 yards and 1 touchdown with the Houston Texans last season, could provide the stability and experience the Falcons need.
Robinson, now Atlanta’s offensive coordinator, worked with Woods as an assistant wide receivers coach with the Rams in 2020.
Morris was also with the Rams during Woods’ last season there in 2021. Woods, who turned 32 in April, has been a reliable target throughout his career and even surpassed 1,000 yards with the Rams in 2018 and 2019.
Currently, the Falcons have Ray-Ray McCloud, KhaDarel Hodge, and rookie Casey Washington behind London and Mooney. Woods could potentially replace Hodge on the roster. Although the Falcons may not heavily rely on their depth receivers, adding a veteran like Woods could serve as valuable insurance in case of injuries to London or Mooney.
