Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver DJ Chark has been placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least four games due to a hip injury that kept him out of practice all week.
Chark was already ruled out for the Chargers’ season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. The team has a bye in Week 5 and will face the Denver Broncos in Week 6. Chark, who turns 28 on September 23, was signed as a free agent in May after the departures of veterans Keenan Allen (to the Bears) and Mike Williams (to the Jets).
He was listed as a starting wide receiver alongside Quentin Johnston, the Chargers’ top 2023 draft pick, and Joshua Palmer, a third-round pick in 2021. Last season, Chark recorded 35 receptions for 525 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games (11 starts) with the Carolina Panthers.
Throughout his career, spanning 69 games (51 starts) with the Panthers, Detroit Lions, and Jacksonville Jaguars, Chark has 212 catches for 3,069 yards and 23 touchdowns.
In a corresponding move, the Chargers signed tight end Eric Tomlinson to the active roster and elevated linebacker Shaquille Quarterman from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. Tomlinson, 32, has played in 85 career games with multiple teams, and Quarterman, 26, spent the last four seasons with the Jaguars, contributing 54 tackles and one forced fumble in 63 games.
