Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart may not have the Heisman Trophy on his radar this season, but he currently leads major college football in one of the most important statistical categories: passing yardage. According to a graphic shared by FOX College Football on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Dart holds the top spot for passing yards in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) after two weeks of play, accumulating 795 yards in just six quarters.
The list of the top five passing yard leaders features:
1. Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss): 795 passing yards
2. Chandler Morris (North Texas): 737 passing yards
3. Kyle McCord (Syracuse): 735 passing yards
4. Behren Morton (Texas Tech): 701 passing yards
5. Shedeur Sanders (Colorado): 689 passing yards
What makes Dart’s performance particularly impressive is that he has only been on the field for six quarters over the course of two games. In the season opener, Dart was pulled at halftime during Ole Miss’ 76-0 blowout win against the FCS Furman Paladins, after he threw for 418 yards, five touchdowns, and added a rushing score.
In the following game against Middle Tennessee, Dart threw for 377 yards and set a new SEC record for most consecutive completions in a single game, beginning with a perfect 24-for-24.
Ole Miss faces its first real test of the season as they head on the road to play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this weekend. Wake Forest holds a 1-1 record following a close loss to Virginia.
The game is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on The CW.
