After sitting out the game against USC, Michigan tight end Colston Loveland may return for this weekend’s matchup against Minnesota. Head coach Sherrone Moore, in a Monday press conference, mentioned that Loveland was close to playing last week and is making good progress in his recovery.

“He’s doing better,” Moore said. “The doctors felt it was best for him not to play. We’re in a positive place now, so we’ll see.”

Loveland sustained a shoulder injury in Week 3 against Arkansas State, exiting in the third quarter. Since he was nearly available for the USC game, his injury likely won’t keep him sidelined for the upcoming game against Minnesota.

With Michigan’s passing game struggling, Loveland’s return will be crucial. Despite missing last weekend, the 6’5″, 245-pound tight end remains Michigan’s top receiver through four weeks, leading the team in yards (187), receptions (19), and touchdowns (1).

Michigan faces Minnesota this Saturday at noon on FOX in their 106th meeting, competing for the Little Brown Jug trophy. Michigan has dominated the rivalry, winning four consecutive matchups and 10 of the last 11 since 2006.
