The Indianapolis Colts secured their first win of the 2024 season by defeating the Chicago Bears 21-16 at home. In response to a need for defensive back depth, the Bears signed former Colts and New England Patriots cornerback Ameer Speed to their practice squad, as reported by NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
Speed appeared in eight games for the Colts in 2023, recording six tackles (one for a loss). Known for his speed, athleticism, and tenacity, Speed will provide valuable competition for Chicago’s wide receivers in practice. There’s also a possibility he could earn a spot on the 53-man roster, given the high injury risk in the NFL.

After releasing Speed on September 17th, the Colts now rely on Gregory Junior, David Long, and rookie Jaylin Simpson as their practice squad cornerbacks. With Indianapolis’ thin depth at the position, these players must be prepared to step up when needed.
Now sitting at 1-2, the Colts aim for a second consecutive home win as they face the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0) on Sunday. The matchup between quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and Justin Fields, as well as the coaching duel between Shane Steichen and Mike Tomlin, will be key storylines in this critical Week 4 showdown.
