The split between Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs was far from smooth, as the Buffalo Bills traded Diggs to the Houston Texans during the offseason amidst rumors of tension between the two. This has made any remarks by Allen that could be linked to Diggs the subject of heightened scrutiny, something Allen experienced recently.
After the Bills’ dominant win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, Allen mentioned it was refreshing to have a group of receivers who weren’t concerned with personal stats. Many interpreted this as a subtle dig at his former top receiver, Diggs. However, Allen quickly clarified that this was not the case.
“I love 14. I still do. But everyone wants to keep making this thing a thing,” Allen explained, according to Matt Parrino of Syracuse.com. “We’re focused on what’s happening inside our building, and that’s all we care about right now.”
Allen and Diggs had a successful four-year partnership in Buffalo, with Diggs earning Pro Bowl honors each season. However, in the latter half of last season, Diggs’ performance dipped, sparking speculation about a potential disconnect between the two. Diggs later posted cryptic messages on social media throughout the offseason, and he was ultimately traded.
Despite Diggs’ departure, Allen has flourished in the 2024 season, throwing for 634 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions while completing 75% of his passes and recording a passer rating of 133.7. He’s also contributed 85 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, leading the Bills to a perfect 3-0 record.
Allen and the Bills are set to face off against Stefon Diggs and the Houston Texans on October 6.
