With Michigan’s passing struggles over the first five weeks of the season, many fans have been calling for true freshman Jadyn Davis to get a chance. As a highly touted four-star quarterback from the 2024 class, some believe Davis could be the solution to Michigan’s aerial issues.
Offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell addressed the possibility of Davis getting playing time this season, saying the team is focused on his development. “As for this season, you never know how things will unfold,” Campbell explained. “We develop him daily, just like the other guys, but everyone wants instant results with young quarterbacks these days. It’s important to make sure he’s ready for the situation. He’s going to have a bright future at Michigan, but we won’t rush that process based on external pressure.”
In short, it’s unlikely Davis will see significant playing time this year. While Davis is expected to be a strong contender for the starting role next season, the coaching staff clearly believes more development is necessary before he’s ready to take over as QB1 in Ann Arbor. Despite fans’ belief that Davis may be a better option than the current quarterbacks, the coaching staff is confident that if Davis were the best choice to win games now, he would be starting.
For the remainder of the season, Michigan’s primary quarterback options remain Alex Orji, Davis Warren, and potentially Jack Tuttle, depending on his health. The chances of seeing Davis take the field in 2024 are slim.
