The Baltimore Orioles are opting not to make any rash decisions following their recent playoff exit. In a press conference on Thursday, Orioles GM Mike Elias confirmed that the team has decided to retain manager Brandon Hyde for the 2025 season, as reported by Roch Kubatko of MASN.
Hyde, who has been with the Orioles since 2019, holds a career record of 406-464 (.467) across six seasons. However, this overall record doesn’t fully reflect his impact, as Hyde was instrumental in guiding the Orioles through a significant rebuilding phase early in his tenure. Under his leadership, the team has transformed into a competitive contender with a promising young core.
Hyde’s work came to fruition last season when he led the Orioles to an impressive 101-win season, earning their first division title since 2014. His efforts earned him the AL Manager of the Year award. This year, Baltimore continued its strong performance, finishing with 91 wins and securing the first Wild Card spot in a fiercely competitive American League.
Despite the team’s regular-season success, Hyde’s playoff track record remains a point of concern. The Orioles have yet to win a postseason game under his leadership, getting swept in consecutive years. Last season, the Texas Rangers swept Baltimore 3-0 in the ALDS, and this season, the Orioles were eliminated in the Wild Card series after a 2-0 sweep by the Kansas City Royals.
Despite these playoff struggles, the Orioles remain optimistic about the future. They have a roster filled with young stars, including Gunnar Henderson (23), Adley Rutschman (26), Jordan Westburg (25), Anthony Santander (29), Corbin Burnes (29), and Jackson Holliday (20). This core positions Baltimore to compete at a high level for the foreseeable future.
Rather than making drastic changes at the managerial level, the Orioles will likely shift their attention to addressing weaknesses on the roster that became apparent during the season. With their young talent and Hyde’s steady leadership, the Orioles hope to build on their progress and find more postseason success in the years to come.
