The Philadelphia Eagles still have some available cap space and should consider using it soon to strengthen their roster. With the team on a bye week, it’s an ideal time to bring in new talent, giving any potential additions extra time to adapt before the next game. One key area where the Eagles could use reinforcement is defensive depth, particularly at linebacker.

FanSided’s Geoffrey Knox proposed that the Eagles take a chance on former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander. Though not a flashy name, Alexander could still provide value. “Kwon Alexander won’t excite many Eagles fans because the first question they’re going to ask is, ‘I thought we wanted to fix this run defense?'” Knox pointed out. While run defense might not be Alexander’s strength—he missed ten tackles in 2023—he is a capable pass rusher and coverage linebacker.

Knox also mentioned that although Alexander isn’t perfect, his skill set could help in specific defensive schemes. “Maybe his addition will alleviate the temptation of trying to drop Bryce Huff into coverage,” he noted. Alexander’s versatility as a pass rusher and coverage linebacker might fill some gaps in Philadelphia’s defense.

Alexander is a seasoned veteran in the NFL, having played for nine years. A former Pro Bowler during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he spent the first four seasons of his career in Tampa after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Most recently, Alexander played with the Steelers during the 2023 season, where he appeared in nine games, made two starts, and recorded 41 tackles, one sack, and one interception.

While Alexander may not be the ultimate solution to all of Philadelphia’s defensive needs, his experience and versatility could offer valuable depth, making him a worthy addition to the Eagles’ roster.
