Pittsburgh Steelers running back Cordarrelle Patterson is once again trying to recruit a wide receiver to the team, continuing his efforts after his previous attempt to bring in help didn’t pan out. Recently, Patterson attempted to lure star receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders to Pittsburgh, as Adams was expressing his desire to leave the Raiders. However, instead of landing in Pittsburgh, Adams was traded to the New York Jets, where he will likely face the Steelers during their Sunday night matchup at Acrisure Stadium.

Despite missing out on Adams, Patterson hasn’t given up on trying to strengthen the Steelers’ receiving corps. This time, he turned his attention to Jets receiver Mike Williams, sending out a message on social media in an effort to spark interest in a potential trade. With Adams joining the Jets’ receiving group, Williams might see fewer targets from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, which could make him a trade candidate. Prior to Adams’ arrival, Williams had been the Jets’ third receiver behind Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard, and his production had been modest, recording just 10 catches in six games for an average of 24.2 yards per game. Given the Steelers’ previous interest in Williams during the offseason, Patterson’s push for the move aligns with the team’s ongoing search for additional firepower on offense.

Meanwhile, former Patriots head coach and current NFL analyst Bill Belichick has expressed some doubt regarding Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s recent decision to start Russell Wilson at quarterback. In a recent episode of “The Coach’s Podcast,” Belichick questioned whether Tomlin is making the right call by going with Wilson, especially since Wilson has been out of action since Week 16 of last season. According to Belichick, a quarterback switch is only beneficial if the coach is certain it will improve the team’s performance, otherwise, it might be wiser to stick with the current quarterback.

Belichick acknowledged that Wilson is a seasoned veteran who understands how to play the position but emphasized the challenge of returning to live game action after a long absence. Wilson didn’t play during the preseason, and Belichick noted the difficulty of shaking off rust and finding game-time rhythm this deep into the season.

Additionally, two former Steelers players have found new homes recently. Defensive lineman Armon Watts has joined the New York Giants’ practice squad, as reported by KPRC-2’s Aaron Wilson. Watts spent the 2023 season with the Steelers, and his new team, the Giants, will face the Steelers on “Monday Night Football” in Week 7. Wide receiver Denzel Mims, who had a brief stint with the Steelers during the offseason, is now heading to the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks after being released. Mims has 42 catches for 676 yards in his three-year NFL career but has yet to score a touchdown.
