The Indianapolis Colts made several key roster moves on Saturday in preparation for Week 7, elevating cornerback Kelvin Joseph and linebacker Liam Anderson from the practice squad to the active roster. These moves reflect the Colts’ focus on bolstering their defense for their upcoming matchup.

In addition to these elevations, the team signed linebacker Austin Ajiake to the practice squad, providing further depth at the linebacker position. Ajiake’s addition gives Indianapolis more flexibility and coverage on defense, especially as they deal with injuries and look for performance boosts during the middle of the season.

One notable change involved wide receiver Ethan Fernea, who was released from the practice squad to make room for Ajiake. Fernea had been with the team for a short period but had yet to make a significant impact. The move shows the Colts’ priority of strengthening their defense rather than focusing on their wide receiver corps at this moment.

Kelvin Joseph, a former second-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 out of Kentucky, has had a turbulent career thus far. Initially seen as a promising young cornerback, Joseph’s stint with the Cowboys was short-lived as he struggled to meet expectations. He was traded to the Miami Dolphins, where he appeared in four games in 2023, recording just two tackles. After being waived by the Dolphins, Joseph signed with the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad, where he appeared in one game and recorded one tackle before being released.

Now with the Colts, Joseph has another opportunity to showcase his skills and potentially establish himself as a reliable option in the secondary. The Colts are clearly looking to add depth and flexibility to their defense, and Joseph’s elevation suggests they are giving him another chance to prove his worth on the field.

Similarly, linebacker Liam Anderson’s elevation underscores the Colts’ focus on strengthening their defense for Week 7. Anderson has shown potential in his previous appearances, and with his promotion, the Colts are giving him an opportunity to contribute further.

The combination of these roster moves highlights Indianapolis’ strategy to shore up its defense as they prepare to face the Miami Dolphins. These adjustments aim to improve the team’s overall performance while also allowing younger players and recent additions, like Joseph, to make an impact on the field.
