Florida Gators offensive lineman Christian Williams announced on Thursday via X that he plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal when it opens on December 9. Williams, who has been with the program for three seasons and appeared in six games during his tenure, will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Expressing his gratitude to the Gators’ coaching staff and community, Williams shared an emotional message. “To Coach Napier, Coach Stapleton, Coach Sale, and everyone in the organization who gave me the incredible opportunity to attend such a prestigious university, thank you,” he wrote. “I am forever grateful for the brothers and family I’ve gained during my time here, and the memories we’ve created will stay with me forever. Thank you, Gator Nation, for your support and for showing me a side of football I had never experienced before.” Williams then confirmed his decision: “With that said, after much consideration, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.”

A native of Missouri City, Texas, Williams joined Florida as a three-star recruit in the 2022 class. He committed to the Gators over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, which was the only other reported offer he received. Notably, Williams was one of the first recruits to pledge to Florida after Billy Napier took over as head coach, making his departure symbolic of a transitional era for the team.

Williams is now the ninth Florida player and the second offensive lineman to announce plans to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Other players who have declared for the portal include edge rushers Quincy Ivory, Bryce Capers, and Justus Boone, safety Ahman Covington, receiver Andy Jean, offensive lineman Mike Williams, defensive back Ja’Keem Jackson, and defensive lineman Kelby Collins. This wave of departures highlights the level of attrition the Gators are experiencing.

However, Florida has also taken proactive steps to replenish its roster. During the 2025 Early Signing Period, the Gators secured commitments from two offensive tackles through the high school recruiting ranks: four-star prospect Tavaris Dice and three-star recruit Jahari Medlock. These additions provide some optimism for maintaining depth on the offensive line.

The Gators are expected to be active in the transfer portal once it officially opens this offseason, aiming to offset the departures and strengthen their roster for the future. For Williams, the transfer represents a new chapter in his football career, and for Florida, it marks an opportunity to adapt and rebuild under Coach Napier’s leadership.
