Following a strong early signing period, the Oregon Ducks are reportedly close to securing another top talent in the 2025 recruiting class. Over the weekend, Oregon hosted four-star linebacker McKay Madsen for a visit as they aim to further strengthen their ’25 roster. Madsen, a product of Clovis, CA, plans to take a two-year mission trip that would push his career start to 2027, but the Ducks remain a top contender for his commitment.
Madsen has drawn interest from multiple programs, receiving offers from schools like BYU, Washington, Arizona State, Washington State, UCLA, Boston College, San Diego State, Arizona, Fresno State, San Jose State, and others. Additionally, Ivy League schools such as Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, along with service academies like Army and Air Force, have extended offers. Madsen has also visited Washington and BYU officially, but Oregon has emerged as the frontrunner, according to 247Sports’ crystal ball prediction.
Reflecting on his visit to Eugene, Madsen shared his thoughts with On3’s ScoopDuck, mentioning that one of the highlights was experiencing Oregon’s weather during the winter months. He also appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with coaches and discuss the possibility of playing two sports at Oregon, gaining insights from a coach about his experience with that dual-sport path.
Ranked as the No. 19 linebacker nationally and the No. 17 player in California by 247Sports, Madsen’s high school career has been impressive. Over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he racked up 92 total tackles, including eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, five pass breakups, and four interceptions. In addition to his prowess on the football field, Madsen is also a standout in track and field. National recruiting analyst Greg Biggins has described Madsen as “one of the freakier athletes” in the 2025 class, underscoring his rare athleticism.
As the Ducks prepare for their Rose Bowl game against Ohio State or Tennessee, they are also positioning themselves to add another key recruit to their roster, further solidifying their standing as one of the top teams in college football.
