The Los Angeles Dodgers have been highly active this offseason, participating in the Juan Soto trade talks and securing the signing of Blake Snell. However, they have yet to bring back one of their crucial free agents, and they may need to find a replacement if he decides to leave.
Newsweek’s Zach Pressnell suggested that the Dodgers could shift their focus to Chicago White Sox centerfielder Luis Robert Jr. as a potential replacement for Teoscar Hernández. In his proposed trade, the Dodgers would acquire Robert in exchange for right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller, shortstop Joendry Vargas, and outfielder Kendall George.
Robert played 100 games for the White Sox in 2024, hitting 14 home runs, but his performance showed a noticeable decline from his standout All-Star season in 2023. While his 2024 numbers weren’t as impressive, the context of playing for a struggling White Sox team could have contributed to this dip. In 2023, Robert played 145 games, hit 38 home runs, drove in 80 RBIs, and posted an .857 OPS, demonstrating his ability to produce at a high level when healthy and supported by a competitive team.
Robert signed a six-year, $50 million extension with the White Sox in 2020, and after the 2025 season, he will have two years left on his contract with $20 million club options. If Robert can stay healthy and perform at his previous All-Star level, his contract could turn out to be a significant bargain for the team that acquires him.
Hernández, who had a stellar season with the Dodgers on a one-year contract, hitting a career-high 33 home runs and earning an All-Star selection, was a key contributor to the team’s World Series victory. He quickly became a fan favorite, but with the possibility that the Dodgers may not be able to reach an agreement on a new deal, another team could step in to meet his contract demands, leaving the Dodgers in need of a new solution to fill his role.
