Santander’s 44 home runs in 2024 solidified him as one of the most powerful hitters in the game, even if his defense and on-base skills remain questionable. The real appeal of adding Santander to the Red Sox would be the potential to add a significant power boost to their lineup, especially in Fenway Park, where his defensive limitations could be somewhat mitigated by the unique dimensions of the Green Monster in left field.
While Santander is projected to sign a five-year, $105 million deal, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic, this could be seen as a hefty commitment for a 30-year-old whose overall career numbers are solid but not exceptional. Still, if the Red Sox fail to land either Bregman or Hernández, the fanbase may turn to Santander as an alternative, especially if he continues to replicate his 2024 success. Given the team’s need for more offensive firepower, Santander might become an appealing option for Boston as they look to strengthen their lineup for the upcoming season.
