The Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off their 2024 World Series victory, have continued to strengthen their roster by adding Blake Snell to their pitching rotation and are reportedly eyeing another potential All-Star acquisition. Recently, MLB Trade Rumors’ Nick Deeds mentioned that while the Dodgers are not currently linked to Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, they could make a long shot trade involving Gavin Lux.

Deeds suggested that the Dodgers, always looking to improve their team, might consider adding Castillo—a steady, innings-eating starter who could complement their rotation filled with high-powered arms, some of which come with durability concerns. Despite this potential interest, Deeds pointed out that the Dodgers’ infield depth is limited, making it unlikely that they could offer a suitable trade package to acquire Castillo. Lux, while a versatile player capable of filling multiple positions, might be a reasonable platoon option at second base for the Mariners, but it’s uncertain if that would be enough to sway Seattle in a deal.

Gavin Lux has been with the Dodgers since 2010, starting 412 games over the course of his career with the team. As a two-time World Series champion, Lux has contributed a .252/.326/.383 slash line, along with 28 career home runs. However, his role with the team in 2025 may not be as prominent, given the Dodgers’ evolving roster and Lux’s limited playing time in recent seasons. Meanwhile, Castillo, a three-time All-Star, signed a five-year, $108 million contract with the Mariners in 2023 and has been a standout performer for the team.

The Mariners are known to have a deep starting rotation, but they could benefit from improving their offense. A trade for Castillo would likely require more than just Lux, but Lux’s versatility—having played second base, shortstop, third base, and even left and center field—could make him an attractive asset for Seattle. While a deal involving Castillo and Lux may seem unlikely at the moment, it remains a possibility as the Dodgers continue to explore ways to enhance their pitching staff.
