The Los Angeles Dodgers are continuing their usual offseason activity, but there may be room for another significant move ahead. After securing key players like Blake Snell, Blake Treinen, and Teoscar Hernández following their World Series win, the Dodgers didn’t slow down, signing Korean utility player Hyeseong Kim to a three-year deal and trading Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds in the past few days. Despite these moves, one area where the team could still improve is center field. While Tommy Edman is currently expected to start at the position, he had filled in as the Dodgers’ shortstop during the postseason, indicating that center field might still be a priority.

Drew VonScio of Newsweek recently suggested a bold trade proposal for the Dodgers to upgrade their center field by acquiring Chicago White Sox All-Star Luis Robert Jr. In exchange, VonScio proposed that the Dodgers send left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski and catcher Diego Cartaya, who was recently designated for assignment, to Chicago. The trade would address the Dodgers’ center field need while providing the White Sox with valuable prospects.

VonScio pointed out that there are limited options available for center field through free agency, making the trade market a more viable avenue for the Dodgers. He noted that acquiring Robert, who is an established center fielder, could be a crucial move in bolstering the team’s chances of repeating as World Series champions. The proposed trade would also give the White Sox the chance to develop both Wrobleski and Cartaya, while the Dodgers would gain a high-level outfielder in Robert.

Although Robert had a lackluster 2024 season with a .657 OPS, he had an impressive 2023 campaign, hitting 38 home runs with an .857 OPS and earning a Silver Slugger award. With Robert entering the final year of his six-year, $50 million contract with the White Sox, the Dodgers would also have club options for the 2026 and 2027 seasons if they were to acquire him. While Robert’s 2024 performance was disappointing, his potential bounce-back on a contender like the Dodgers could provide a major boost to the team. The trade would align with the Dodgers’ goal of improving their roster while capitalizing on the opportunity to take a chance on a talented player who may thrive with a fresh start on a top-tier team.
