After hitting a woman with his truck at a resort valet, former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Janarius Robinson was taken into custody and charged on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) during Super Bowl week in Las Vegas, according to multiple local media.
According to CBS station 8 News Now, Las Vegas police responded to a report of a woman who was struck by a car and then “became pinned between two cars” near the Aria Resort & Casino on the strip at around seven in the morning on February 6.
According to David Wilson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the woman was admitted to the hospital.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Robinson, 24, was found to be the driver of the car, a 2022 Ram 1500, and that he failed field sobriety tests. Robinson was freed, and according to NBC station News 3 in Las Vegas, he will appear in court on June 4.
Robinson, who the Vikings selected in the fourth round in 2021, has now signed to a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders and is still a member of their team.
In reaction to Robinson’s arrest, the team issued the following statement.
According to CBS Sports, the Raiders stated, “We are aware of an incident involving Janarius Robinson last night.” “The club is currently compiling additional data.
Robinson smelled like alcohol and “looked intoxicated,” but he said police he wasn’t using any other drugs when he was arrested, according to 8 News Now. Robinson said that he had two drinks beginning at 10 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m., or over seven hours before the 5:45 a.m. crash.
Robinson was charged with misdemeanor DUI after failing field sobriety tests, according to the authorities, as reported by The Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In a statement released on Friday, Robinson’s lawyer Ross Goodman noted that his client did well on the field sobriety tests.
According to Goodman, who spoke with The Las Vegas Review-Journal, “there are also no presumed levels of what Mr. Robinson’s blood alcohol content was at the time of driving since the blood draw did not take place until approximately 3 hours later.” “We are eager to demonstrate that Mr. Robinson is innocent of a DUI.
