To complete his collection of coaches, Sherrone Moore is adding one more former Michigan employee.
According to a rumor from 247Sports, Stephen Adegoke, the safeties coach for the NFL’s Houston Texans and a former graduate assistant under Jim Harbaugh, is expected to be appointed as the defensive backs coach for the Michigan Wolverines.
Pronounced add-uh-go-KAY, Adegoke served as a graduate assistant for the defensive backs at Michigan in 2021, assisting in a turnaround that resulted in three consecutive Big Ten titles and a national championship. He worked closely with players, was well-liked within the facility, and picked up the scheme from Mike Macdonald, the defensive coordinator at the time.
Adegoke has now spent the last two seasons in the NFL, working under DeMeco Ryans as the safeties coach for the Texans in 2022 and as the quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.
Under Dan Mullen, he started his coaching career at Florida in 2019 and 2020 as a graduate assistant. Adegoke was a safety at Mississippi State for three seasons, giving him connections to the SEC. He graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s degree and Florida with a master’s.
Moore, the head coach in his first year who was promoted on January 26 after Jim Harbaugh left, is currently in the process of hiring Adegoke. It is anticipated that Don “Wink” Martindale will be named defensive coordinator shortly. Along with an offensive line coach (Grant Newsome) and tight ends coach (Steve Casula), Michigan already has its offensive coordinator (Kirk Campbell), special teams coordinator (J.B. Brown), and director of strength and conditioning (Justin Tress) in place.
Ron Bellamy will continue to serve as the wide receivers coach.
