It is now official that Novak Djokovic will undoubtedly remain ranked #1 in the world on the ATP rankings, at least through April 1, 2024, despite his recent defeat in the Australian Open semifinal in 2024. This is specifically because World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz isn’t in any way catching up to the Serb before April 1st due to a string of dismal losses in recent times.
Given this information, it is now certain that Novak Djokovic will have further extended his record by leading the ATP rankings for a total of 418 weeks by the time that time comes.
With 209 total weeks under his belt as the World No. 1 Rafael Nadal is his main challenger in the list of most weeks, therefore it is probable that Djokovic will double his total in a matter of months.
It’s almost incredible how good Djokovic is at breaking records, and most fans agree that it won’t be done again. Djokovic is probably going to stay the top player in the world even after April 1st, even though Alcaraz isn’t playing well right now. Furthermore, it is extremely unlikely that the Serb will be overtaken anytime soon by someone like Daniil Medvedev or Jannik Sinner.
As of right now, Jannik Sinner has 8270 points, Alcaraz has 9,105, and Djokovic has 9,855 official points. With a strong showing at Indian Wells and the Miami Open, Jannik Sinner may be able to pass Alcaraz and move up to the second place in the world, thereafter he may challenge the Serb for the top rank. After winning his first-ever Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2024, he most recently won the ATP Rotterdam.
After five arduous years, Djokovic will finally compete in the Indian Wells tournament in 2024. When he participated in the competition for the first time in 2019, he was defeated by Philipp Kohlschreiber in the round of 32.
After that, he was unable to compete in the tournament since, up until last year, the United States of America required non-citizen visitors to be vaccinated. The Serb, however, refused to comply with this requirement and chose not to receive a vaccination.
Having won the competition in 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016, Nole has an incredible record. But he hasn’t won the Indian Wells trophy in for than eight years, so when he returns this year, he hopes to do so.
It will also help him make amends for the terrible loss he suffered against Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinal in 2024—it was the Serb’s first-ever defeat in a Happy Slam semifinal, incidentally.
