Zverev defeated Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3, 6-0 in the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico, thanks to his outstanding play.

After defeating Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round of the Los Cabos Open in Mexico, top seed Alexander Zverev said he strives to win every match. The three-time French Open semifinalist batted down rumors that he is the clear favorite to win the competition because he thinks that every game should be taken seriously.

The German has been on fire this season, having assisted his nation in winning the 2024 United Cup. Zverev, who had advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open before falling to Daniil Medvedev, bounced back from a brief illness to defeat his Japanese opponent at the Los Cabos Open.

The German stated he is not depending on being the favorite and is simply concerned with winning every game at a press conference following his first victory in Mexico. “I think there are very good players here,” Zverev remarked. Tennis players that have competed in Grand Slam and Masters 1000 finals are with me. Although there are other excellent players, it goes without saying that you feel like the favorite when you are ranked #1. Although I like that role, I am aware that I must fight in every game and treat every match with extreme seriousness.
But with Alex de Minaur losing to Alex Michelsen last night, Alexander Zverev is still the favorite to win the Los Cabos.

The only other elite players in the competition are Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud. Tsitsipas wants to get back into the exclusive group of the Top 10 after dropping out this week.

“I know that I have to fight in every game,” Alexander Zverev admits to being a ‘favorite’ in every tournament, albeit not letting it corrupt his game
