Australian basketball standout Josh Giddey will not be charged in California following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl, as reported by media outlets in the United States. The 21-year-old guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder came under police investigation in Newport Beach after authorities were made aware of the accusations.

News 9, based in Oklahoma, reported that the police confirmed they had thoroughly examined all available information and were unable to substantiate any criminal activity related to Mr. Giddey. The Californian authorities acknowledged in November of the previous year that they were aware of accusations of inappropriate behavior circulating online.

“The Newport Beach Police Department is aware of information being circulated online involving an alleged relationship between professional basketball player Josh Giddey and a female minor,” stated the police at that time. “The Newport Beach Police Department is actively seeking additional information related to these allegations and pursuing all leads and evidence to obtain the facts of the case.”

The NBA initiated its own investigation, but Giddey received clearance to continue playing. The allegations first emerged on social media, formerly Twitter, when images circulated featuring a shirtless Giddey standing behind a woman, accompanied by claims that she was an underage girl.

Josh Giddey has refrained from commenting on the investigation and the accusations leveled against him. When questioned by reporters, he stated, “I understand the question obviously, but no further comment right now. I get the question, guys. I completely understand you want to know about it but, just for right now, I don’t have anything to say.”

Despite the ongoing scrutiny, Giddey is expected to play a crucial role in the Australian Boomers’ prospects at the Paris Olympic Games.
