Cora has accumulated a solid record of 440-370 (.543) during his tenure as the Boston Red Sox manager. However, the team has experienced two consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs, resulting in a sub-.500 performance. According to Heyman, there appears to be a mutual interest between Cora and new Red Sox general manager Craig Breslow in getting acquainted over the upcoming season before exploring the possibility of a new contract. Given the potentially high price tag attached to Cora’s extension, the 39-year-old up-and-coming figure, Bailey, could emerge as a leading candidate to succeed him in Boston.
