A former outfielder from the Boston Red Sox has joined forces with Atlanta braves

Chris Sale won’t be the sole member of the 2023 Boston Red Sox to join the Atlanta Braves for the upcoming season. Adding to their outfield depth, the Braves announced the signing of Adam Duvall to a one-year contract worth $3 million.

Despite rumors of a potential return to Boston, the Red Sox, who acquired outfielder Tyler O’Neill in the offseason, opted not to pursue Duvall. This decision was confirmed by Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, who reported that the Red Sox did not actively seek to re-sign Duvall.

With the opportunity to reunite with the Braves, where he spent parts of five seasons, including their World Series-winning campaign in 2021, Duvall brings his powerful right-handed bat back to Atlanta. Known for his standout performance during the 2021 season, where he recorded 38 home runs and 113 RBIs while splitting time between the Miami Marlins and Braves, Duvall is poised to contribute to Atlanta’s outfield lineup once again.

In the past five seasons, Duvall has struggled with injuries, limiting his playing time. Last season marked the only time during this period that he played over 100 games, appearing in 92 games for the Red Sox. However, a fractured wrist suffered in April sidelined him for two months. Despite this setback, Duvall managed to record a .247 batting average with 21 home runs and 58 RBIs by the end of the season.

Now joining the Braves, Duvall faces competition for playing time in an already stacked lineup. With Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II firmly entrenched in right field and center field, respectively, Duvall will vie for opportunities in left field. He will compete with Orlando Arcia and Jarred Kelenic, whom the Braves acquired during the offseason.
