Staying consistently on the field has posed challenges for Trevor Story during his initial two seasons with the Boston Red Sox. However, if Story aims to make a strong comeback in 2024, a feat the Red Sox firmly believe he can accomplish, maintaining his availability for daily play will be crucial. Aware of this imperative, the 31-year-old shortstop is targeting an ambitious milestone for the upcoming season.

Having been sidelined by injuries for a total of 137 games over the past two seasons, Story is now setting his sights on surpassing that figure in the upcoming season alone. According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, Story expressed his intention to manager Alex Cora, aspiring to participate in 155 games this season—a goal that may seem challenging given his recent injury history, yet one that Cora fully supports.

Cora enthusiastically embraced Story’s ambition, stating, “Let’s go. Let’s shoot for it,” as he addressed reporters on Tuesday. Despite Story’s delayed start to last season, attributed to an offseason procedure on his right ulnar collateral ligament, he enters this season fully healthy, potentially paving the way for consistent appearances on the field.

Notably, Story’s ability to play nearly a full season of games isn’t unprecedented. He logged a career-high 157 games in 2018 with the Colorado Rockies, delivering his most outstanding performance with a .291 batting average, 37 home runs, 108 RBIs, and 27 stolen bases. Moreover, during his tenure with the Rockies, he played in 145 games twice and concluded his time with the team in 2021 with 142 appearances.

Achieving such a feat would mark a significant milestone not only for Story personally but also for the Red Sox organization as a whole.
