Carlton returns to the venue of their AFL Gather Round controversy next Saturday as they face Fremantle in a highly anticipated clash at Adelaide Oval.
Among the numerous significant matchups scheduled in the nine Adelaide games, the Blues and Dockers, both boasting 3-0 records, will headline the twilight fixture.
Last year, Carlton found themselves in a similar situation, entering the first Gather Round with a perfect 4-0 record, only to face a crushing defeat against Adelaide in a Thursday night encounter at the same venue. This loss marked the beginning of a nine-game slump, during which their solitary victory came against the wooden spooners, West Coast.
Star Blues forward Charlie Curnow acknowledges the importance of every game, especially away matches, emphasizing the need to avoid complacency and maintain consistency throughout the season.
Despite Fremantle’s proximity to Adelaide, Curnow recognizes the significance of the upcoming clash against them.
The Carlton attack, buoyed by their impressive performance in the recent Good Friday win over North Melbourne, poses a formidable challenge for the Dockers’ defense, led by the in-form captain, Alex Pearce. In that match, Carlton showcased their scoring potency with 11 different goalkickers, including standout performances from Curnow and key forward Harry McKay.
Curnow praises the contributions of his teammates, particularly highlighting the emergence of Matt Owies and Elijah Hollands, as well as McKay’s improved accuracy in front of goal. With McKay and Curnow combining effectively as tall forwards, Carlton presents a formidable threat to opposition defenses.
