Kevin King's contract uses $2 million in cap space for 2021, shifts $3M into 2022 - Acme Packing Company

King, aged 28, makes his return to the NFL following a hiatus of two years. He opted out of the 2022 season to focus on regaining his health but encountered a setback in 2023 due to a torn Achilles tendon sustained during an offseason workout.

During his tenure with the Packers spanning five seasons, King made his mark by starting 42 out of 51 games played. He contributed significantly with 197 total tackles, 30 passes defended, and seven interceptions. His standout performance occurred in 2019, where he achieved career highs with 66 total tackles, 15 passes defended, five interceptions, along with a sack and a forced fumble, all achieved across 15 games.

Originally selected as a second-round pick from Washington in 2017, King finds himself reunited with familiar faces upon his return to the NFL. Notably, Falcons defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake served as Washington’s secondary coach during King’s final three collegiate seasons from 2014 to 2016. Additionally, Falcons assistant head coach/defense Jerry Gray and secondary coach Justin Hood share a history with King from their time together in Green Bay.

While King experienced both successes and challenges during his stint with the Packers, the Falcons are optimistic that the presence of familiar coaches will enable him to showcase his best abilities once again.
