Teammates of veteran Scott Pendlebury at Collingwood are worried that he may have suffered broken ribs following their narrow five-point victory over Hawthorn in Gather Round.
Despite securing their second win of the season after a shaky start of 0-3, there are concerns over Pendlebury’s health after he received a knee to the back from Hawk Josh Weddle during a marking contest in the second term of Sunday evening’s game. Pendlebury was subsequently sent for scans to assess the extent of his injury.
Teammate Jack Crisp provided an update on Pendlebury’s condition, mentioning that he was sent back to Melbourne for further evaluation after arriving home on the first available flight from Adelaide. Crisp expressed hope for Pendlebury’s recovery and noted the benefit of the upcoming bye week for his teammate to recuperate.
As the team analyzed their latest nail-biting victory, Crisp emphasized that it was just another four points added to their tally, leaving them with a record of 2-3 heading into the bye week. Despite the tight match, Crisp highlighted the team’s experience in such situations and their ability to secure the win in the end.
Regarding former Collingwood player Jack Ginnivan’s behavior during the game, Crisp stated that it was all in good fun and part of Ginnivan’s playing style. He assured that there were no concerns about it, with everyone sharing smiles at the conclusion of the match.
Collingwood, along with Sydney, is among the final four teams to have a bye from the original lineup in the AFL’s inaugural Opening Round. In the upcoming Round 6, Melbourne and Richmond will also have their bye weeks.
