The Green Bay Packers announced on Wednesday the signing of cornerback Gemon Green, who saw intermittent starts for the Michigan Wolverines from 2020 to 2022. Primarily playing as an outside cornerback during his tenure at Michigan, Green accumulated 1,109 snaps in that role compared to just 95 snaps in the slot. Hailing from Texas, he tallied 68 total tackles, one interception, and 13 pass deflections throughout his collegiate career.

During the 2023 pre-draft evaluation period, Green did not receive an invitation to the combine. However, he participated in Michigan’s pro day where he measured at 6’1” and 183 pounds. At the pro day, Green posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.53 seconds, a vertical jump of 37.5 inches, a shuttle time of 4.51 seconds, and a three-cone drill time of 7.13 seconds, according to NFL Draft Scout.

After going undrafted, Green signed with the New York Giants as a free agent but was only able to secure a practice squad position for approximately 24 hours during the cutdown period following the draft. Since August, he has been without a team until now, when he has the opportunity to join the Packers.

During his preseason stint with the Giants, Green saw action as both an outside cornerback (34 snaps) and a slot corner (26 snaps). Additionally, he contributed to New York’s kickoff team and played snaps as a gunner on the punt team.

Given the returning cornerback roster of Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine, and Robert Rochell, Green is likely competing for a practice squad spot with the Packers. Making the 53-man roster may be challenging for him, especially considering the possibility of the team adding another cornerback in the upcoming draft.
