As the Pittsburgh Steelers head into the offseason following another premature playoff exit, fans are anticipating significant moves from the team’s front office to address various issues, particularly at the quarterback position. However, there’s a possibility that the focus might shift to improving the offense in a different manner. Despite having a roster with highly skilled pass catchers, a wide receiver from a rival division team has hinted at the possibility of making a move to Pittsburgh, presenting an alternative avenue for strengthening the team’s offensive capabilities.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd expressed his openness to playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers under coach Mike Tomlin. In an interview with Dominic Campbell of Pittsburgh Sports Now, Boyd acknowledged his admiration for Tomlin, describing him as one of the most genuine individuals in the sports industry. Reflecting on his time at the University of Pittsburgh, Boyd mentioned his positive interactions with Tomlin and the valuable discussions they had about football. While expressing the possibility of joining the Steelers, Boyd emphasized the strong connection he feels with Tomlin, likening it to a father figure, and left the door open for potential future opportunities.
Tyler Boyd, who grew up in Pennsylvania and played college football in his home state, may consider returning home after spending eight years with the Cincinnati Bengals in Ohio. This potential move could bring Boyd back to Pennsylvania, where he previously played for the University of Pittsburgh before embarking on his NFL career with the Bengals.
Following a successful collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh, Boyd entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick for the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2016 NFL Draft. Throughout his eight-year tenure with the Bengals, Boyd has amassed an impressive stat line, recording 513 receptions for precisely 6,000 yards and scoring 31 touchdowns.
During a specific phase of his career, Boyd served as the primary target in the Bengals’ passing game, achieving over 1,000 yards in two seasons. In recent years, he has assumed a supporting role behind Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase. Despite this shift, Boyd has maintained a steady contribution, recording a minimum of 50 receptions and 600 yards in each of the past three seasons.
Regrettably, the team might not prioritize keeping him, especially considering the need for a contract extension for Higgins. If this scenario unfolds, Boyd is likely to secure another position, and interestingly, the Steelers could be a potential landing spot for him.
