To accommodate the addition of Garrett Cooper, the Red Sox have transferred slugger Triston Casas to the 60-day injured list. Casas is sidelined with fractured cartilage connecting his ribcage to his sternum, with a return date set for June 21 against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Manager Alex Cora emphasized that although there isn’t a precise timetable for Triston Casas’ recovery, it’s evident to the Red Sox that he will require at least 60 days to heal.
“We had a pretty good idea, but we don’t give timelines,” Cora stated. “You never know what could happen. But everybody knows what’s going on. It’s going to take a while.”
Additionally, another roster move is imminent for the Red Sox. They’ll need to create space on the 26-man roster to activate Garrett Cooper, who may not join the team until Tuesday.
Bobby Dalbec is being considered as a candidate to be sent down to Triple-A Worcester due to his significant struggles at the plate this season. His batting average stands at just .128, with an on-base percentage of .180, slugging percentage of .170, OPS of .350, and 24 strikeouts in 47 at-bats.
Manager Cora acknowledged the potential addition of Garrett Cooper, highlighting his ability to contribute against both left-handed and right-handed pitchers, along with his solid defensive skills. The team believes Cooper could provide valuable assistance.
Regarding Triston Casas’ injury status, he indicated that the timetable for his return is uncertain, ranging from three to nine weeks depending on his recovery progress. Casas mentioned ongoing discomfort while breathing, emphasizing the need to alleviate this before advancing to further stages of rehabilitation.
