Reece Conca has been chosen as Richmond’s second Homecoming Hero for the 2024 season.
The Tigers will honor Conca before Sunday’s Round 8 game against Fremantle at the MCG. Conca will be celebrated by the Tiger Army as he walks to the Punt Road end to receive their applause.
During the tribute, Conca will kick a ceremonial goal, and highlights from his playing career will be displayed on the MCG’s screens.
Richmond selected Conca with the sixth overall pick in the 2010 AFL national draft after closely monitoring his football development for several years. They were particularly impressed with his progress during the 2010 season at WAFL club Perth and with Western Australia in the under 18 national championships.
Conca made his AFL debut for Richmond in the opening round of the 2011 season against Carlton at the MCG, where he performed admirably with 15 disposals. He played a total of 17 senior games in his debut season, earning an AFL Rising Star nomination and winning the Cosgrove-Jenkins award for the Tigers’ best first-year player.
Throughout his time with Richmond, Conca proved to be a valuable member of the team, contributing as both a midfielder and a rebounding defender. Despite facing injury setbacks in later years, he played a total of 104 games for the Tigers, kicking 23 goals and averaging 17.9 disposals per match.
