Hayden Hurst, the newest addition to the Los Angeles Chargers as a tight end, is eager to team up with another talented quarterback in Justin Herbert.
Having previously played alongside notable quarterbacks such as Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow during his tenure with four other NFL teams—including the Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, and Carolina Panthers—Hurst is no stranger to working with top-tier talent.
Expressing his enthusiasm for working with Herbert, Hurst highlighted the quarterback’s professionalism and commitment to winning as two pivotal factors driving his anticipation. He acknowledges that he’ll need to elevate his own game during the offseason program to align with Herbert’s standards and aspirations for success.
“Hurst shared his thoughts, telling Chris Hayre of KCAL News, ‘Just being with a professional of that elite status… I was in Cincinnati two years ago with [Joe] Burrow, he’s obviously in those conversations as well, those top-tier quarterbacks.
How he goes about his business, he’s a professional, he’s one of the best in the league. You know what he’s coming with every single day, so you better have your stuff in line. He’s going to be rolling and he wants to win, so he wants the same people in place with him.
It’s a really great environment, but there’s going to be a lot of competition. I know when training camp rolls around it’s going to be fast and physical, it’s a great place to be.'”
Hurst, along with Will Dissly, joins the Chargers as a free agent tight end addition. His previous season with the Panthers in 2023 saw him secure 18 receptions for 184 yards and one touchdown. Throughout his career, he has amassed 195 receptions for 1,902 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Both Hurst and Dissly are anticipated to enhance the Chargers’ offensive arsenal, providing support for Herbert and contributing to a well-rounded offensive strategy under the guidance of offensive coordinator Greg Roman.
Additionally, they are expected to fill the void left by former Chargers tight end Gerald Everett, who posted 51 receptions for 411 yards and three touchdowns.
