Red Sox Adjust Roster as Tyler O’Neill Hits IL, Recall Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A

The Boston Red Sox have made a key roster adjustment following the decision to send outfielder Tyler O’Neill back to Boston for imaging on Wednesday. Ahead of their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles, Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe reported that O’Neill was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 26. In response, the Red Sox have recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A.

O’Neill, who leads the team with 11 home runs this season, has struggled to find his best form. Over 41 games and 148 at-bats, he has managed a .236 batting average and an .843 OPS. The Red Sox are hopeful that this time off will allow O’Neill to recover fully and return to the impactful player they need.

Red Sox Enmanuel Valdez

Enmanuel Valdez, who was optioned to Worcester on May 2, has shown flashes of power despite not hitting his stride. In 20 games and 74 at-bats, he has posted a .230 average with six home runs and an .887 OPS. Valdez’s versatility, having also worked at first base, offers the Red Sox additional flexibility during O’Neill’s absence.

The team is optimistic that these adjustments will help stabilize the roster and maintain their competitive edge as they navigate through the season.
