The Pirates’ affiliates suffered defeats in all five games they played on Saturday night, extending a dismal streak, though two former first-round picks hit home runs.
Henry Davis set the tone early for Triple-A Indianapolis with his seventh minor league home run of the year in the first inning. Despite this, the team couldn’t manage any extra-base hits for the rest of the game, losing 4-2 to the Omaha Storm Chasers.
The Altoona Curve endured a wild ninth inning against the Portland Sea Dogs, conceding five runs in the top half and nearly losing the game before scoring three in the bottom half to tie it up. However, they fell short in the tenth, losing 11-8.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the top of the ninth but couldn’t capitalize, resulting in a 4-3 loss to the Asheville Tourists. Termarr Johnson, the 2022 first-round pick, hit a two-run homer in the first, his fourth of the season.
Single-A Bradenton played a doubleheader but couldn’t secure a win in either game.
