The Calgary Stampeders have selected their four team captains for the upcoming season: Reggie Begelton, Jake Maier, Mike Rose, and Rene Paredes. Together, they bring a combined 27 seasons of experience with the team. This will be Paredes’ 10th term as Calgary’s special teams captain.

In 2023, Begelton was named a CFL all-star, catching 86 passes for 1,119 yards and five touchdowns over 15 games. He led the team in all receiving categories and ranked second in the league for catches and sixth for receiving yards. The 30-year-old from Beaumont, Texas has made 329 catches for 4,445 yards and 24 touchdowns over his six seasons with the Stampeders.

Maier started all 18 regular season games in 2023, setting career highs with 4,244 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. He led the team to a third-place finish in the West Division with a 6-12 record, although they were eliminated from the playoffs after a 41-30 loss to the B.C. Lions in the West Semi-Final.

Rose, a 31-year-old from Fountain Inn, S.C., has recorded 129 total tackles, 30 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception over his six seasons with Calgary. He set a career high with 11 sacks in 2023 and was named a CFL all-star for the third consecutive year.

Paredes, 39, made 86.7 percent of his field goal attempts and converted 29-of-30 one-point attempts in 2023, totaling 185 points. The Concordia University product is a five-time CFL all-star and ranks ninth in league history with 2,129 career regular-season points. The two-time Grey Cup champion was named the league’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2013.

The Calgary Stampeders (0-0) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-0) at McMahon Stadium on Friday, June 7, with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EDT.
