On Thursday, the Chicago White Sox managed to avoid a four-game sweep by defeating the Seattle Mariners 3-2 in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park. Despite the win, Garrett Crochet, the White Sox pitcher, did not earn a decision as the game went into extra innings. However, Crochet’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. The left-hander allowed just one run on two hits over 7.0 innings, striking out 13 and making history in the process.
According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, Crochet now holds the record for the most strikeouts with fewer than 20 walks in his first 15 career starts since 1900, surpassing notable pitchers:

Garrett Crochet has now struck out 116 batters in 82.2 innings this season, showcasing some of the best raw talent among starting pitchers in the sport. Despite the Chicago White Sox having the worst record in baseball at 18-52, Crochet has excelled since transitioning from the bullpen to the rotation this year. He currently holds a 6-5 record with a 3.16 ERA and is almost certain to be the White Sox’s lone representative at the All-Star Game later this summer in Arlington.
While trade rumors have circulated about the 24-year-old, the White Sox reportedly do not want to trade him, even though they have made the rest of the roster available.
The White Sox will remain on the West Coast for a weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 9:40 p.m. ET, featuring a pitching matchup between Chris Flexen (CWS) and Ryne Nelson (ARZ). Flexen has a 2-5 record with a 5.06 ERA this year, while Nelson is 3-5 with a 5.96 ERA.
