The Auburn Tigers have gained a new safety commit, Jahquez Robinson, who played for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes last season. According to Ainslee Lee of AL.com, Robinson has decided to transfer to Auburn from Colorado for the 2024 season.
Robinson began his college career with three seasons at Alabama before transferring to Colorado for the 2023 season. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 205 pounds, he brings experienced depth to Auburn’s defensive backfield.
Originally from Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, Florida, Robinson signed with Alabama in the class of 2020 as a four-star prospect and the No. 17 safety in the country according to Rivals. On3 later rated him as a three-star prospect as a transfer.
During his three seasons at Alabama, Robinson was a reserve player. He transferred to Colorado to follow his position coach, Charles Kelly, who had been hired by head coach Deion Sanders. With Kelly now hired as co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Auburn, Robinson has decided to follow him once again.
In his single season at Colorado, Robinson played in four games, recording eight tackles and one interception. Although primarily listed as a safety, he has also played cornerback and nickel positions.
Auburn’s head coach, Hugh Freeze, has utilized the transfer portal to find players who can contribute immediately and provide senior leadership. While Robinson has yet to make a significant impact in college football, he will have the opportunity to do so at Auburn and serve as a mentor in the defensive back room under Kelly’s guidance.
