The Atlanta Braves are currently exceeding expectations.
Despite losing both Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. to long-term injuries, the Braves sit in second place in the National League East with an impressive 43-32 record. They hold the top National League Wild Card spot with a 5 1/2 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Atlanta, known for its depth, could still compete for a World Series title this season despite the injuries. Adding reinforcements around the trade deadline would be beneficial, especially in the outfield.
One potential trade target for the Braves is Tampa Bay Rays All-Star Randy Arozarena, as suggested by Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer.
“That wasn’t the strategy in the wake of Acuña’s first ACL tear in 2021, when (Alex Anthopoulos) bought low on (Adam Duvall), Joc Pederson, Jorge Soler, and Eddie Rosario,” Rymer said. “All four moves ultimately helped deliver a World Series title, so why not go back to the well?
“They should go get: Randy Arozarena, Tampa Bay Rays. He may be a Rookie of the Year winner and a playoff legend, but Arozarena is also a guy with just a .190 average and a .654 OPS this season. He nonetheless still has solid peripherals, and it’s reasonable to think he would be energized by a move to a contender.”
While Arozarena’s current numbers are modest, he is only 29 years old and has a career .255 average with three consecutive seasons of 20 or more home runs. A change of scenery might help him regain form, and Atlanta should explore all options.
