David Nofoaluma’s tenure with Wests Tigers has come to a bitter end, despite his impressive record of scoring 100 tries in 192 games for the club. Following a loan to the Melbourne Storm at the conclusion of the 2022 NRL season, he was reportedly informed by the new head coach, Benji Marshall, that he would not feature in the first-grade squad for the club. This led to Nofoaluma seeking legal advice after taking the matter to the Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA). His refusal to train and arriving late for training marked breaches, and a second breach, related to a reported stomach problem and being untraceable for 48 hours, has led to his contract termination by Wests Tigers. The club officially announced the release in a statement.
The termination of David Nofoaluma’s contract with Wests Tigers has been mutually agreed upon by the club and the player, effective immediately. The interim CEO, Shane Richardson, expressed gratitude for Nofoaluma’s contributions to Wests Tigers over the past decade and wished him well for the future. With Nofoaluma’s try-scoring prowess and strong ball-carrying abilities, his departure is expected to attract interest from Super League clubs.
