South Sydney veteran Tom Burgess has expressed his desire to extend his career with the Rabbitohs. However, he has also considered the possibility of returning to England if a renewed contract with the Bunnies is not forthcoming.
As one of 11 Rabbitohs players without a contract beyond the 2024 season, Burgess is embarking on his 12th season with the cardinal and myrtle, boasting 225 games played for the club. Last year, he faced challenges with injuries and suspensions, marking his lowest game count since his debut season in 2013.
While Burgess sees the ideal scenario as continuing his enduring association with the Rabbitohs, he acknowledges the reality that a new deal may not materialize. “I’d love to stay at Souths, I’d love to keep the dream alive, so that’s my first priority,” Burgess shared with The Sydney Morning Herald.
Burgess expressed gratitude for his extended tenure with Souths, emphasizing his primary goal of consistently delivering strong performances for the club. While acknowledging the unpredictable nature of sports and the business aspect of the game, Burgess remains hopeful for a continued partnership with the Rabbitohs. However, he is aware that if a mutual agreement cannot be reached, he may need to explore opportunities elsewhere. Despite uncertainties, Burgess is confident in his abilities and believes he still has much to contribute to the sport.
