The Michigan football team is deep into fall camp, facing a tight quarterback competition that needs to be resolved in just a few weeks. The contenders for the QB1 spot are Alex Orji, Davis Warren, and Jack Tuttle. While Orji entered the offseason as the presumed favorite, with the most significant game experience at Michigan, the decision is far from final.
With the season opener against Fresno State on August 31st rapidly approaching, Michigan needs to finalize its starting quarterback soon. Wide receiver Tyler Morris has been particularly impressed with Orji’s progress during camp.
“He’s much more detailed and has made some great throws this fall,” Morris shared in a 247 Sports article. “Every day, he’s been improving, working on areas where he previously struggled, while maintaining his strengths. Some of his throws have been amazing, and he’s definitely become more consistent, which was the biggest area for improvement.”
Defensive back Quinten Johnson also weighed in on the competition, praising Orji but noting that Davis Warren had the best passing performance so far. “Orji’s running ability makes him a tough opponent,” Johnson said. “But Davis [Warren] had the best passing day so far. A-Walk [Amorion Walker], T-Mo [Tyler Morris], Colston [Loveland], and Marlin Klein all stretch the field well, giving us creative ways to get them the ball.”
As it stands, the quarterback battle is still wide open, making the next three weeks crucial as the Wolverines search for the player who gives them the best chance to win.
