As the Houston Astros push towards the MLB postseason, they’ve been riding high with a six-game winning streak and are currently tied for first place in the American League West. With a 63-55 record and key players like Justin Verlander and Kyle Tucker set to return, the team is in a strong position.
However, on Tuesday, the Astros made a significant roster change by releasing right-handed relief pitcher Dylan Coleman. Coleman had made just one appearance for Houston this season, back on April 3rd.
In the minors, Coleman played 36 games this season, posting a 2-0 record with a 6.50 ERA, a 1.94 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts against 42 walks over 36 innings. Given these stats, the team decided that Coleman’s future did not lie with them and did not see him returning to the majors.
At 27, Coleman may still find opportunities with another team as he seeks to return to the big leagues. Although this outcome was not what either party had hoped for, it was a necessary decision for the Astros.
