The silence in my home is deafening. It’s a heavy, tangible thing that greets me in the morning and echoes through the rooms at night. Last week, my heart-dog, my first husky and constant shadow, Loki, crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

He was the quiet confidant before the cameras ever turned on, the wild spirit on every trail, and the steady, breathing warmth at my feet through every storm of life. He was the foundation upon which everything else—my other huskies, my purpose, the “Bearded Viking”—was built. His absence is a physical ache, a chapter closed with a finality that takes my breath away.

But here is what I believe with every fiber of my being: A bond like ours does not simply end. Energy cannot be destroyed; it only changes form. Loki’s spirit—his loyalty, his playful mischief, his boundless love—is still here. I feel it in the sunbeam where he used to nap. I hear it in the howl of the wind through the pines where we walked. And I refuse to let that energy fade. Instead, I choose to amplify it, to channel this profound grief into a force for undeniable good.

That is why today, with a trembling hand and a hopeful heart, I am launching Loki’s Howl: A Legacy Fund.
