The Tennessee Titans are adding depth to their wide receiver group by signing former San Francisco 49ers wideout Tay Martin to the practice squad, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

Martin, 26, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the 49ers following the 2022 NFL Draft. Although he spent time with San Francisco, being elevated for two games in 2022 and one in 2023, Martin has yet to record any statistics in an NFL game.

During his college career, Martin played three seasons at Washington State before transferring to Oklahoma State. In his final collegiate season in 2021, he impressed by catching 80 passes for 1,046 yards and 10 touchdowns, helping put him on the NFL’s radar. That year, Oklahoma State had a strong season, finishing 12-2 and securing a Fiesta Bowl victory against Notre Dame.

Despite showing promise in college, Martin has struggled to find his footing in the NFL. His recent release from the 49ers presents a new opportunity to prove himself with the Titans. Tennessee, which had a competitive battle for receiver spots during training camp, kept only six receivers on the active roster. With Bryce Oliver and Mason Kinsey already on the practice squad, Martin’s addition brings further competition to the mix.

It remains to be seen whether Martin will get the chance to join the Titans’ active roster this season. However, it’s common for NFL teams to consistently evaluate and bring in new talent throughout the season to ensure they have the best possible players available. Martin’s signing gives Tennessee another option as they look to strengthen their receiving corps.
